RE: UPS - sent prepaid shipment from Irving, TX to Canada - charged CAD $ 41 additional for brokerage fees On 9th Sept, I shipped a package (personal effects used things) to my sister from the UPS store located at 7750 MacArtthur, Irving TX to Canada. On delivery UPS charged for brokerage amounting to CAD $41.00. How can UPS charge me Brokerage when I was not told about it when I shipped the parcel. On my waybill it clearly says that Shipping is PREPAID and Consignee pays for only Duty and VAT. There is no mention of BROKERAGE. Secondly on what basis is the brokerage charged? My shipping charge is USD$36 and brokerage is CAD $41 that is outrages. Since this amount was never mentioned to me, the UPS should take care of this brokerage. Also UPS had delayed my parcel by 5 days by losing the invoice. Even after making a formal complaint UPS refused to refund the amount, having told me that I was informed by the UPS store when I shipped it, which indeed is false.
UPS threatened to return the package if the brokerage amount was not paid and again charge shipping on it. This was clearly a blackmail by the UPS. They told me to file a case in small courts if I want a refund. What the UPS is doing is a clear fraud on customers in Canada. I do not know how many people might have experienced the same thing. Would appreciate very much if anybody could tell me where to make a complaint against the UPS in Canada.
