RE: MINIMAX ELECTRONICS - www.123dj.com - purchased equipment in April, 2003 - poor service experiences

I have read other complaints pertaining to the owner of Minimax Electronics (Neil). I am a DJ and purchased equipment from this company in April of 2003. Since that time I have been lied to repeatedly about tracking numbers, faxed receipts that were never sent and equipment that was never sent when I was told it would be. I had problems with speakers that I purchased and it took Neil three weeks to send me an itemized receipt which I needed to get new speakers which are under warranty.

He has also lied numerous times about tracking numbers for "sent" equipment which I later found was never even picked up by the UPS. I have tried being patient with this man but it seems the only way I get results is by screaming and yelling. He makes a business out of telling you what you want to hear and then completely disregards his word after he gets off the phone with you.

I have found my business interactions over the phone to be very frustrating with this man and his company. I even directly asked him "why do you blatently lie to me if you have no intention of following through with our agreements" ? His answer was a silent pause.

I did get Neil to give me some free equipment after I verbally confronted his lying and deception regarding the DJ equipment which I bought (it was a Complete DJ setup which contained a cd mixer, two speakers, amplifier, two speaker stands and microphone). He sent me a plastic cd carrying case (which was a joke, don't do me any favors) after he cost me about 1000$ because I had to cancel two parties I was going to do because the equipment never came by the date he said it would arrive. I called him and chewed him out at which time he sent me a wireless microphone and karaoke mixer.

This was a little better but didn't add up to 1000$. Finally when he sent me the equipment, he sent the wrong speaker wires and amplifier. It was a complete nightmare to deal with this company. Week after week, lie after lie. The latest incident had to do with the receipt that I mentioned above. He told me three times that he "personally sent" out the receipt. He never did.

I finally got smart and told him to directly fax over the receipt. He never did. I called him back and screamed at him telling him I was going to fly to Chicago to put a beating on him. I received FOUR faxes five minutes later (not sure if he was being sarcastic by sending me four. I said to him " you know what, it's obvious you could care less about the receipt". His response was " I don't care about you, I already sent you free equipment". I reminded him the equipment he sent me was for all the frustration his company caused me by continuing to lie and never send the right equipment.

I also informed him that the two parties he personally cost me didn't add up to the 200$ of "free equipment" that he sent me.

I've ordered several times from 123dj.com & Minimax over the past few years, thinking that they were just having a bad day or the rep was having a bad day. I kept going back for their price points and giving them the benfeit of the doubt; But this poor service was the rule as opposed to the exception. I had to cancell my order before last because they had yet to ship for a calander week after taking the order and charging my card. The order that's pending is taking the same amount of time, but time is not of the essence on this one. Therefore, this is my last order from 123dj.com. There are plenty of other sources that are friendly, efficient and professional out there. I've only used this company when I have budget limitations, as I do install modest size soundsystems in bars and clubs or repair, but saving ten to twenty dollars on an item is not worth using 123dj.com or minimax. May I reccomend idjnow, Zzounds and music123. I've had positive and timely service and shipping from these vendors.

Almost a month ago... I purchased speakers, cables and an amp from 123dj.com after consulting with one of their employees. When I received my items... I found the cables that were sold to me did not fit my speakers. I was hoping to avoid this... that's why I spoke with one of the employees to MAKE SURE I BOUGHT THE RIGHT CABLES. I immediately called 123dj.com and spoke with a manager, Neil... who (at the time) seemed to be very helpful. He apologized for the trouble and offered to connect identical pieces of equipment (that were sold to me) and call me back with a solution. He called me back that same day and CONFIRMED that the cables sold to me were wrong. He told me he would ship the correct cables that day.

I waited a few days... but received NOTHING... I called back... only to be told that there was NO RECORD TO SHOW THAT ANY OF THIS HAD OCCURRED! After several minutes of being transferred back an forth... I finally spoke to a gentleman by the name of Pharaoh. He was able to find out that I had spoke to Neil in the first place and told me that he was not in at that time... BUT would have him call me as soon as he returned. Neil never called me!

The next day I called and spoke to Niel. He, in fact, said he remembered our initial conversation and reassured me that the replacement cables had been shipped out. When I asked what cables he sent... he replied with the WRONG CABLES! So I went over with Neil the process we went thru in order to find out what cables I needed... Neil told me he would connect identical pieces of equipment again and call me back. NEIL NEVER CALLED ME BACK! (I ALSO NEVER RECEIVED THE SO-CALLED REPLACEMENT CABLES THAT HE SHIPPED OUT TO ME!)

I called Neil back the next day... he told me that he discovered I needed 2, 25ft, 1/4" to Banana Plug wires in order to hook my speakers up to the amp I purchased. He also told me I needed 2, 6ft, 1/4" to 1/4" wires to go from my mixer to my amp. He told me he was going to ship them out that day. I WAITED A WEEK AND STILL RECEIVED NOTHING!!! I called Neil back that next Monday and asked that he provide me with a tracking number... he said he would call me back with it.... NEIL NEVER CALLED ME BACK! I called him back an hour later... asked if he had the tracking number yet... he said he needed to talk to shipping and would call me back within an hour.... I told him to email it to me instead. He told me he would not only email it to me... but call me first before he emailed it so I knew to look for it. NEIL NEVER DID ANY OF THIS!!!!

Today (Dec 18, 2007) I spoke with Neil... he actually provided me with a tracking number for the replacement cables that were supposedly sent out today.

As I was speaking to him on the phone... I made an attempt to track the package on UPS's website... The package could not be found. Neil told me that he would try to track the package himself and call me back. NEIL NEVER CALLED ME BACK!!! I decided to call UPS myself just to see if there was some other way that they might be able to track the package with that number. The lady I spoke to explained to me that 123dj.com creates their own UPS labels and schedules them to be picked up. She also told me the tracking number I provided HAD NOT EVEN BEEN SCHEDULED TO BE PICKED UP THAT DAY!

I called Neil back... explained to him what the lady from UPS told me. He told me the package had been scheduled to be picked up by 6:00pm tonight and to try and track the package then. He also told me that if the package is not able to be tracked... then 123dj.com would ship me out yet ANOTHER identical package.

From reading the comments listed above... I highly doubt that Neil has done any of this. So I too will probably have to resort to yelling @ him until I receive the right cables. OH YEAH... the best part of the story... the cables were part of a very expensive DJ package I was giving my partner for Christmas. Since I have yet to find a store around here that carries 1/4" to Banana plug wires... Neil has single handedly ruined this gift. THANKS A LOT 123DJ.COM

Whatever! 123DJ has the best prices anywhere. They DO have some of the worst customer service around, but if you dont mind waiting a couple of weeks for something, and you know what you want/need then they are the business for sure. Communication could be better for sure also, but what are you going to do. Just be couteous and kind and try to get them to do the same.

Granted you had a pretty crappy experience right here, but you cant deny some of the most unbelievable prices around. If you are looking for a bg setup, 123dj ahs the deals!!

I'm still waiting on an order from December 12, 2007!!!! Who wants to get together to file a class-action lawsuit against this company? Just let me know. I will be more than happy to file a lawsuit against 123dj.com, but could use some help from someone in Chicago. As of now, I can only file a lawsuit against 123dj.com here in Colorado since they ship across State lines to Colorado.

123dj is a horrible company to get your dj gear from, they do lie about shipping, i was told multiple times over a 3 week span that my items were shipped, when i got them (5 weeks after i orderd them and payed $1500 online) they 4 out of the 6 items purchased were broken i was promised free items and never got them, a total of $1500 spent, 5 weeks of waiting, horrible customer service including the owner.
