RE: Toshiba Satellite notebook computer - from CompUSA, Springfield, NJ - given recovery disk for Tecra 8000 series machine which wouldn't work to restore Satellite notebook computer - unable to get Windows 98 recovery disk

Serial Number 6021794CU

I bought the subject machine in August of 2000 in a COMPUSA store in Springfield, NJ. I was given a recovery disk which I was instructed to keep. Recently, the machine had a problem with booting the windows operating system. I backed up my data and brought out the recovery disk to restore the machine.

To my surprise, I got a 'Wrong Machine' message. I examined the disk and realized the recovery disk was for the Tecra 8000 series machines. I had all along been given the wrong recovery disk with the machine at the time of purchase.

I contacted Toshiba's support center on 1-800-457-7777 to try to get another disk. I was told they do not have the recovery disk that has windows 98 which came with my machine in stock anymore. I was given several phone numbers of authorized service centers in chicago area that I live.

I tried all of them with the same result. They do not have a windows 98 recovery disk for Toshiba Satellite. I went to the Toshiba web site to lodge a complain. There was no response from them. I need to recover my machine and I don't know what else to do at this point.
