RE: Fisher and Paykel washing machine - computer module repair problems - poor quality experiences

We bought a Smartdrive and it went well for 18 months...then the Computer blew up... so they replaced it with a REWORKED computer module which went for another 4 mths and blew up,(yes they replace them with USED computer modules that have been repaired.... not new ones) they replaced it, then the waterpump threw the towel in which being out of warranty by this stage was replaced by a non dealership (but trades qualified) repairman, and then, you guessed it , after another 3 months it blew the computer up again...

I tried e-mailing the company and after numerous correspondance, guess what? they didn't want to know me.... So now we have a webpage up for all to see how they TREAT their customers....

This is, in my opinion, how this company works....

An average family buy's what they think is a good machine, which Fisher and Paykel HOPES will last through the warranty period... If it does then good they have your money...if it doesn't they repair it and hope it lasts through...Then this family repairs the machine each and every time it breaks down...MORE money to F&P.

I was lucky i guess... I saw how reliable this piece of garbage was and point blank refused to spend money on it... I went and bought a second hand machine (Hoover) and it has performed faultlessly for the last 3 years..As you can see the Fisher and Paykel is in the garage gathering dust.(I may need some sheet metal or a dog kennel one day)

Recommended Washing Machines to buy from our local repairman who works from home and doesn't have a dealership in any shape or form...

1 Maytag.... costly but the best...

2 Simpson

3 Hoover

The Simpson and Hoover are about par he says...

He says these 3 machines are the ONLY ones to buy...He added "I'm going to make a lot of money out of these Fisher and Paykel machines in the next 10 years".......says it all doesn't it....

I had a SmartDrive stop working afte about 5 years.. Out of warranty. I rang up Fisher and Paykel. They sent out a repairman in less than a day. He fixed it in about an hour.

he charged me for the call out fee, and the part.

I have had *excellent* service from them.

cheers jeffrey in surry hills.

Very disapointed. Loved this product and ratings were good. Computer just blew up, literally. Two year old ecosmart GLW15. Technician showed me the problem cause. Water valves are in same compartment as computer! Slight water leak and a tray under valves fill up (no drain) Then it over flows into computer tray, there is a "drain" on far side of tray, more like a hole under the micro switch. Unfortunatley for the consumer the hole is probably an inch above the height of the bottom of the motor control board. Thus any tiny leak of a $30 water valve results in a dead $300+ computer. Is this done purposely? Surely these engineers are smarter than this!

I HAVE OWNED A FISHER PAYKEL WASHER AND DRYER FOR 3 YEARS AND MY DRYER HAS BEEN REPAIRED 6 TIMES AND MY WASHER HAS BEEN REPAIRED ATLEAST 10 TIMES. FISHER PAYKEY JUST KEEP SENDING OUT A REPAIR MAN TO FIX IT, I HAVE ASKED THEM TO EXTEND THE WARRENTY FOR ANOTHER 2 YEARS ON TOP OF THEIR 2 YEAR AND LOWES EXTENDED WARRENTY. I WOULD NEVER RECOMEND ANYONE BUYING THAT BRAND EVER. I HAVE TOLD THEM THAT. I HAVE TO KEEP TAKING DAYS OFF OF WORK TO GET IT FIXED AND THEN THE TECH TELLS HE HE WILL CALL ME TO SCHEDULE AND THEN DOES AND HE SAYS BETWEEN 2-4 9-12. I HATE THAT. WHEN MY WARRENTY EXPIRES I WILL GO BACK CAN MADE WASHER & DRYER.

WE HAVE OWNED A F/P SINCE 2001, WE HAVE ONLY EVER HAD 2 PROBLEMS WITH OURS WHERE WE HAD TO CALL A REPAIR MAN OUT TO THE HOUSE. AND WE HAVE 8 CHILDREN, I GUESS I SHOULD CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY, AS YOU CAN IMAINGE HOW MUCH LAUNDRY WE DO ON A WEEKLY BASIS.

We've had an Ecosmart for about 4 years (maybe less). 2 valves were replaced under warranty. The thing spun out of control a couple of times and the drum carved a groove in the plastic washer housing (I thought it was supposed to stop and beep if the load was unbalanced...I guess not always!). Finally, the circuit board fried out. $475. A mercy killing as far as I'm concerned.

I have a Fisher Paykel Washer #GLW10 Washing Machine and this is the 3rd Control Module (426930P) I've replaced in the last 2 years. Technician says everything else checks out just fine. Fisher Paykel says that part is on backorder. I'll never buy another Fisher Paykel product!

Also own a 5 year old FP washer. All was fine except in the initial warranty period. Now either the motor (smells like it) or computer module has died. Seems as if motors should be guaranteed to work longer than 5 years as in US branded washers.

DO NOT BUY F&P WASHERS OR DRYERS! Our $700 washer has had $300 in repairs in the first two years of its life. Our $770 dryer has had nearly $800 in repairs in the three years we've had it. The temperature sensor was the first to go in year one. Now, the internal lint screen was torn - found by the repairman as he investigated another problem. LINT was wrapped all around the internal wiring - FIRE HAZARD!!! The plastic working components of the dryer are warping from the heat of the dryer causing the lint bucket to get jammed. LOWES extended warranty people won't replace these units, as provided in our plan, because it isn't "economically feasible" for THEM. Well, what was I thinking? THESE PRODUCTS ARE JUNK! I wish this much info of FP was out when we were researching Fisher Paykel.
