RE: Hampton Cheverolet, Hampton, VA - upset with service on 1996 Chevy Conversion Van

To It May Concern:

I had my 1996 Chevy Conversion Van towed into the shop at Hampton Chevrolet (1073 W. Mercury Blvd. - Hampton, VA.) on Fri. 13 Sep 02 to have the battery cables replaced. It was towed approximately 3/4 of a mile from a nearby shopping center.

The battery cables were not a stock item and had to be special ordered. I left my van with them until the following Thurs. 19 Sep 02 when the cables were replaced, and I picked it up. On Fri. 20 Sep 02 while at lunch a friend of mine happened to notice a light colored spray material all over my front bumper and chrome and painted grillwork.

I called Hampton Chevrolet, speaking to the service rep. I was dealing with. He told me to bring it in and they'd look at it. When I got there that afternoon, he had gone for the day, but left word with another rep. that I was coming in. Two reps. looked at the damage, as I explained it was not like this when I brought it in and that it had been in their care for six days.

He told me he would have to have it for a day, but was concerned they may not be able to remove it from the rubber part of the bumper without further damage. I again assured him that it was not like this when I brought it in and that whatever it took, they were responsible.

He asked me to call my regular service rep. to schedule a day I could leave the van. I did and dropped the van off after work Mon. 23 Sep 02. When I called Tues. 24 Sep 02 to see if the van was ready, the original service rep. advised me they had removed almost all of it off the chrome and painted grill work to include the chrome part of the bumper, but were not able to get it off the rubber part of the bumper.

He said that if I would check my right wheel well, I would see where I had probably driven through some wet paint on the interstate. I checked it when I went to pick up the van, and could not see what he was talking about. I explained, that even if I had driven through wet paint as he suggested, that it would be on the sides of the van, and not on the front grill work and bumper in the far-most location in front of the wheels.

I then showed the Hampton Chevrolet V.P., who earlier was apprised of the situation according the service rep.. I explained the same to him. His only explanation was that they were certain this did not happen during the time they had the van.

As I could see there was no intention of them doing anything else, I told him I was going to take the van, but that I would never do business with Hampton Chevrolet again, and that I was also going to file a formal complaint on-line. He replied, "okay", and I left.
