RE: Chase Visa - called to cancel credit card - given the run around - card not cancelled as requested

Help! I simply wanted to cancel a Chase Visa credit card in my name since we have too many credit cards and my husband and I are getting another Chase credit card through our mortgage with Chase Manhattan.

I called customer service and was sent to someone who told me not to cancel yet until we get the other card so we could transfer our credit line of 16500. I told her I didn't care about that as we never use that much and every credit card we get is that much.

She told me it would probably be only 500, which is ridiculous. I told her to just please cancel the credit card and then she gave me the speel all over again. This happened several times until she told me I wasn't being respectful as she was trying to help me.

I told her I needed to get to work and didn't want to spend any more of my valuable time, that I was the customer and she needed to do as I ask without wasting any more of my time. She then told me she wouldn't do as I ask since I was not being respectful (when I did not use any bad language and simply told her to please cancel the credit card, that is all I wanted).

She then told me to get off the line and "have a nice day" and hung up! I had told her I would report her but I honestly don't know to whom, so I'm writing to you. I know you can help me. I have a horrible feeling she will put a note in my credit rating our mess up our mortgage or something.

What is up with this kind of customer service, that you can't cancel a credit card? Help!

I have been trying to cancel my Chase CC for the last 20 minutes and they keep hanging up on me. I am not kidding! They tell me to hold on so that they can transfer me and then suddenly I am disconnected.

- Accidentally hit "voice a complaint" to this complaint.

I was trying to post that this incident happened to me as well. The costumer service representative continued to disregard and ignore my request to close the credit card account and went so far as to start providing me personal financial advise. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she told me that she was in fact a supervisor. I then told her again to cancel my card. She finally said she was canceling the card and a week later my card is still registered as active.

Chase is blatantly disregarding the requests of their costumers to close their credit account. Such disregard of consumers should be considered criminal.
