Some time ago, I sent Greyhound lines a commendation on one of their drivers via e-mail, and got no response. When I attempted to call Greyhound Lines at the Dallas home office, I had a long wait before getting someone who obviously had better things to do than to take my call, so I let it drop. But this message is not to condemn Caesar, but to PRAISE him (...or at least one of the soldiers in his army). On a recent visit to the Grand Canyon, I was surprised and pleased to ride with Coach Operator Vince Dawson (Aug 10, 2001, bus 6961 from Albuquerque to Flagstaff/Grand Canyon). This is not the first time I have ridden with him on Greyhound Lines. As in the past, he was an excellent driver and host. He's actually one of the few drivers there that I look up to. Why? Because he is doing what he loves -- serving people -- and nobody does it better. He makes everyone on that bus smile and feel good, passengers and co-workers alike. In the town of Gallup, New Mexico, Mr. Dawson took the time to help an irate passenger locate his luggage in the cargo hold of the bus. The passenger was dead-sure Greyhound had lost his baggage. Vince calmed the passenger down and did a methodical search for the items in question. Some of the passengers offered to help as Vince had been so nice, but he declined and shortly recovered the sought articles with a smile. My last ride with Mr. Dawson was a year or so ago along the same route (Interstate 40). Vince gave that passengers on the coach an impromptu and very entertaining guided tour of some of the Pueblos and Indian Villages along the highway in Northern Arizona and New Mexico. What a treat! All the other drivers that followed after paled in comparison. With all the bad press Greyhound gets as of recent, I'd think they'd want to hear kudos about the better employees that are making it work. I hope this is the case. Sincerely,

Robert Ketchum
