They were having a $169.99 "special", i.e. suckers bait. The service advicer called me and said that the water pump needed changing.
I refused since I had not seen water leaks, loss of coolant or heard pump noises. He said that since the timing belt cover and belt were off, changing the water pup would be easy. I was flabergasted when the bill for changing the water pump was an additional $298, since 80% of the work is done when the belts and cover are off. A call to Elmore Toyota elucidated that they charge $250 when starting from scratch. I called Toyota Customer Service and was told that they do not get involved in disputes with the dealer.
