RE: TV, SONY, TRINITRON

SONY TV, Trinitron, serial #8014455 model kv32s4532 Purchased Oct 1998, problems began November 2000, TV shuts off automatically, and flashes, like taking a picture, now service member states will need a new tube cost $600 plus labor. TV cost over $800 when bought new, just about 3 years later need to spend about $750 total for repair. It will go in the garbage before then, good quality products from Sony huh. thank you

I am an electronics repairman. I came across this site while checking for other suppliers of sony parts. This is what came up as a possible link: My complaint is this: Your site, by posting the above, may mislead people and lay blame on the wrong people. This persons problem is not the TV... It is the TV "service member" that he/she is referring to.

From her description, there is probably nothing wrong with the picture tube. There are one of two possible repairs needed..... one, if the TV still "flashes", requires a voltage regulator and will cost a TOTAL(inc labour) of

cdn$85 or the other if the tv is now finally dead, needs the regulator and timing cicuit repair... A total of cdn$130.

The cause of the problem is from a power surge/spike or a power brownout (if tv was on while it happened) This person should be complaining about the service man. not the TV. This "service member" is trying to make a fast $600. He damn well KNOWS the Tube is fine. He gives honest repair men like myself a bad name. One other thing, In Canada, that TV came with a 3 year warranty. The owner should not have been paying anything. Yet another reason to suspect that "repair person". Max

I also have a similar problem with a sony 32" Trinitron. At first the tv just had sound problems where the sound went on and off. Also the TV would not repond to remote. This progressed to the TV powering off itself. The LED then flashed red a few times and stopped for 2 seconds and flashed again etc etc. I was told is the Micro processor and this would cost 200 euro for the part. Does this sound correct?
