September 3, 2003 Maytag Customer Service 240 Edwards Street Cleveland, TN 37311 To Whom It May Concern: Maytag has been a leading manufacture of appliances for many years. We were so pleased with our first washer and dryer that after 19 years and numerous loads of laundry we decided to purchase another Maytag washer and dryer. We chose the Neptune product line because of the Maytag reputation and our previous experience of the product. Unfortunately our experience this time has not been up to our expectations. We purchased the Neptune set in March of 2000 for $999.00. Since, we have had (3) service calls to:
1) Replace the electronic control for $50.64 in January 2001.
2) Replace the tub seal for $107.61 in April 2002
3) Replace the control board and door latch for $307.64 in August 2003.
4) Along with the August 2003 call, the repairman had to return and also replaced the water inlet valve for an additional $69.00. Before our most recent problems began with the washer machine, we have also purchased a Maytag stove and dishwasher. Again, weve had to have the repairman here twice to replace the oven sensor for approximately $100.00 each time. Now we are afraid to clean the oven because we know it will cost us another repair bill. To date, our dishwasher is holding up, however we wouldnt be surprised if some part failed on it next. While venting our frustrations, we have discovered several others that have experienced the same problematic issues that we have been facing. It seems the Maytag quality has gone down hill over the years and soon our appliances will be costing us more to repair than the original purchase price. Tri-County Appliance in Oregon, WI has always gone beyond our expectations, which is why we continue to patronize their business. They respond quickly, are knowledgeable of the products they sell, and will take every action possible to correct problems. I am a member of the reliability team for a major appliance company. Given the problems that we have described above, the units would be replaced and taken to the lab for further investigation. We will be building a new home within the next 12 months. As we make our considerations for appliances, it will be difficult to consider Maytag even though it is the only brand we have owned. Sincerely, Chris and Marla Schmidt
