RE: Allied International and Dircks Moving Service Agent for Allied Van Lines - trouble with move from France to Phoenix
My household goods were moved from France to Phoenix in February/March of 2003. I insured the move at a total cost of aproximately $1000 on a estmated value of $56000.
At delivery it was discovered and noted on the the "customer Check-off Sheet" that a $3500 Armoire was badly damaged and an item was totally missing. The sheet was signed by the Allied Agent. I submitted a claim for damage to Allied International in Chicago who returned the claim and said that it must be sent to the insurer in France which I did.
I have received nothing from the agent in France and Allied International in Chicago refuses any assistance. At this point, I have no recourse except to proceed with litigation. Moreover, the manner in which Dircks Moving Service handled the shipment was a classic rip-off. The day before the shipment was to be delivered, Dircks un-packed and stored the container contents in their facility which ,of course allowed them to charge their"Minimum" two week storage fee of $424.
