RE: Shoddy Service at CTI.
Computer Technicians Inc. 717 Sandoval Way Hayward, Ca. 94544 October 30, 2001 Dear Proprietor, I am writing this letter regarding repair service performed on my computer by your company October 17/23, 2001. I visited your company to have my computer repaired and left it with the understanding that repair work would be done. Originally I was told by the repair technicians that the work would be completed and my computer returned to me October 18, 2001. I told the technicians that I was experiencing Windows errors that culminated in blue screens. The computer would boot but whensoever I inserted a compact disc into the cd-rom drive the system would lock up or default to a blue screen Additionally I told the technicians that I had installed additional ram in preparation to installing Windows XP, that I had recently upgraded the bios and that there was data on the computer which was of importance to me in the hopes that it might be recovered during the repair. I contacted your company after I had not received a phone regarding my computer to ascertain the repair status. The technician requested that I bring into the shop my original Windows 98 HP Pavilion System Recovery discs to facilitate the repair although my system, at the time of the requested repair work, had Windows Me with Microsoft Office 2000 installed on it. I took the discs into your business and gave them to the repair technician who implied they were needed to facilitate the computer repair I had contracted to be performed on my HP Pavilion 8770C computer. October 23, 2001 I telephoned your business and requested that I be permitted to retrieve my computer in light of the fact that I had not received any contact from your company. I was advised that the repairs would be completed by 1:00 PM and I agreed to pick up my computer that afternoon. I drove to your business and met with a technician who presented to me a bill for $180.00 for two hours of repair work (Invoice #19403) that included the reinstallation of my original Windows 98 HP Pavilion System Recovery discs, a scrubbed hardrive, loaded Win98 Cab files, repaired registry files along with the loading of additional software & drivers for the cd and the dvd Burner.
Notation on the bill invoice # 19403 indicated that my computer had tested ok and the network connection was ok. However when I returned home and reconnected the hardware to boot up my computer it was not ok and I was not able to connect to the @Home network. The following litany of error messages was displayed during my futile attempts to boot and to use my CTI freshly repaired computer: Error Message Error MessageError MessageError MessageError MessageError Message This program has performed and illegal operationInvalid page fault in module mshtml at 0167:7ad9aedd. Finally after many hours of fruitless attempts on my part to get my computer to run properly and realize the repair work I had paid for I took it in to have it repaired. IN less than one hour it was determined that my system had installed pc133 ram along with pc 100 ram that resulted in most if not all of the aforementioned error message. I am left to wonder what repair work was performed at CTI when this was not diagnosed or discovered by the repair technicians at CTI over the course of five days. I am displeased with the work performed by CTI. I feel cheated to have paid for a service that did little, if anything at all to rectify the problem I brought to the attention to CTI when I brought my computer in for repair and I am drafting a letter to the Better Business Bureau along with Hewlett Packard to alert them of my dissatisfaction. It is unconscionable to think that Hewlett Packard authorized (as per the advertisement in the telephone book page 294) repair and resellers would make such fault filled repairs on equipment that is supposedly familiar to them.
