Stores, Computer - Comp-u-plus poor customer service
Comp-u-plus all they want is to make sale. Computer Stores, Other From: Date: Friday, October 26, 2001 07:16 AM I would like to give you a breif review of the circumstances prior to this e-mail and then you be the judge wheter or not you would be as upset as I am.
1. 8/31/01 9:59pm I placed an order (inv #873680) for intel d850gbcal motherboard. To go along with it I ordered a processor, a video card and a case.
2. on Sept 4 I am notified that the order was placed and would be processed and shipped 2nd day air.
3. on Sept 5 I get a tracking number for the motherboard, processor, and video card. Case is shipping ground. This is where the bad stuff begins. You see I ordered everthing from Comp-u-plus to have all on one freight ticket and to come in together but I figure it won't be to bad I will get case the following week and it did cost me more on freight but I was ok with it somewhat at this time.
4. Motherboard arrives Sept 7 (Friday) case arrives Sept 14 the following Friday.
5. 9/8/01 Saturday Morning I wake up eager to get this puppy together. The case was sold with what you call a bundle package (extra fan) I find out this is just something extra to put in but guess what the screws for the fan do not fit the appropriate holes in case. Again I say no big deal I go out to the garage get drill and drill bit and drill the holes out to fit screws. (if sold as package bundle then it should have fit)
6. 9/8/01 after drilling holes for fan and have case ready I open up motherboard box (which came in 1 week earlier) I start reading instructions and it talks about the "I/O sheild" furnished with motherboard. I start to look for it it is not in the box. Instructions also say "if it does not fit the case call your supplier have them send I/O sheild to fit". Well guess what I cannot get a hold of comp-u-plus because no one is there after 1 pm on Friday. So we have to wait until 9/10/.01 Monday to call.
7. Monday 9/10/01 I call Customer Service at Comp-u-plus to tell them and at first the lady I was speaking to kind of let me to believe this is not a Comp-u-plus problem it was an intel problem because it was shipped by Intel without the I/O sheild but I was able to convince her I purchased it from Comp-u-Plus not intel. She told me she would try to see what she could do.
8. Tuesday 9/11/01 (do you remember what happened this day it is the day terriorist hit the twin towers) I get confirmation Comp-u-plus is shipping something 2nd day air to me and would be shipping the 12th of sept. I have to assume it is the I/O sheild. Later that day I get a phone call from Comp-u-plus which confirms my assumption. But guess what all air traffic is halted so my package sits.
9.On or about, this I am not positive about the date, 9/19/01 I receive the I/O sheild for the motherboard now I can finsih putting together my computer that I thought I would have had all the parts for on 9/7/01 you probably think well it is just 12 days. Oh but let me continue because if you not upset having to read all of this so far it just gets worse.
10. 9/19/01 about 10pm I have operating system (windows 2000) loaded on my computer but I notice when i plugged my scanner in the USB port things started acting funny. So I go to control panel system and find everything is loaded to IRQ 9.
11. 9/20/01 I get on the internet and find I have to flash my motherboards BIOS with a ####.p14 (i do not recall any of the other numbers just p14 and that is the most important thing you need to be aware of) and I must not load the drivers of the motherboard the way the CD installs them you must follow different steps.
12. 9/27/01 and 9/28/01 I cannot work on the computer account business work kept me late those days.
13. Again Saturday Morning 9/29/01 I am up early and eager to get computer running. ( I would like to inform you at this time I have put aprox 100 or more computers together at work and for friends). I fdisk my hard drive and reformat it and follow the instructions to load windows 2000 and the motherboard chipset and drivers. Everthing works except this time my computer would lock up if I left it unattended would have to power down the computer to clear it up. Everything still set to IRQ 9. Are you getting tired of this yet because I am getting even more angry typing it but I want you to here it all because I am not thru yet.
14. Since I cannot get Comp-u-plus on Saturday I have to wait until Monday 10/1/01.
15. 10/1/01 I decide to reload everything but I found some other directions at Intel website that tells me to load chipset and drivers a different way and I try this and the board locks up after installing SR1 of Windows 2000 and will not reboot and it is about 11pm so i give up and go to bed.
16. 10/2/01 I go home for lunch to call Comp-u-plus and I call the number shown on your website and I wait again I say that's ok they are busy and I must have waited about 15 mins and a lady pickups up and ask if she could help and I tell her my problem and I am informed tech support takes off an hour for lunch which is the same time I have my lunch break ( 11 am Central time zone). So I now realize I would not be able to call Comp-u-plus at all for tech support since they are in a different time zone than me, they go to work 1 hour after I go to work and go to lunch the same time my lunch break is scheduled and they get off before me.
17. 10/3/01 I call Intel tech support this person tells me there are issues with my Western Digital hard drive and my motherboard and my memory sold to me with my processor is not tested with my motherboard. He tells me I need new memory and to go back to who sold it to me and get a certain # memory which I do not have the # at this time and it is important at this time and after that reinstall the operating system. I then informed him that is where I had a real problem.
He asked why? I told him the computer would not boot at all it would not even get to POST where I could boot from floppy or cd rom. He then proceeded with some steps (I will not bore you with) and the computer booted but no sound. The sound card would not work windows was telling me everthing ok but still no sound..
18. 10/4/01 I search the internet for issues with this motherboard cannot find anything relating to my hard drive and memory for the next few days this is all I did to try to fix my problem and tried reinstalling using Windows ME. Still no sound coming from sound card. I e-mailed Intel tech support they gave me a few other things to try still no sound. I email Kingston (which is the mfg of my memory chips) and Western Digital and ask them if they no of issues with the hard drive and if the memory has not been tested with the motherboard.
19. 10/12 11am cdt I call comp-u-plus talk with customer service and I tell the lady I am speaking with some of my troubles and asked if I could exchange the motherboard she told me I need to hurry because of the purchase date. I quickly remove the motherboard and bring it to work to ship next day line it up to go UPS does not pick it up Friday Monday morning I find this out but read on. About 1pm central time zone I call Comp-u-plus customer service only to find out that they are closed (I Forgot it was Friday) I just wanted to make sure if I sent it next day air and it gets there that there would not be a problem getting it exchanged.
10/12/01 about 8 pm i get Email from Western Digital, Kingston and Intel. Western Digital tells me there are no Issues involving my hard drive with my motherboard, Kingston tells me that the memory had been tested with the motherboard in fact intel gave them the specs to make it for that motherboard and kingston provided me with a number that references the test they had made and intel gave me some other ideas so the weekend of 10-13 and 10-14 I tried it still no sound.
20. 10/15/01 7:30am central time I find out UPS did not pickup the package so I decide at lunch I would call to make sure there would not be a problem. I talk with a lady explain briefly what has taken place and she tells me i cannot do it account of the date I purchased it why did I wait so long and again I went over about the I/O shield but she still tells me no. NOW I am really angry and I tell her not to worry I will not ever purchase anything from Comp-u-plus again and ended the conversation with her as she was telling me if there is a problem maybe she could take it back.
Well if everything I have listed and briefly told her was not a problem then I quess I never had any kind of problem at all and all of this is just a big nightmare. So what I would like for you to do if your company has me on any mailing list or email list please remove it I do not want anything from your company all I want is for someone to pinch me so I can wake up from this nightmare.

P.S. I do not know if it exists but if it does I will find it and I will send a copy of this letter to some kind of better business bureau for internet business and if it does not exist I may start it up and have this for the first letter on file.
