Sprint PCS trouble with service and "free phone" offer

Complaints.com received the following e-message on October 18, 2001:

RE: Sprint PCS and their "FREE phone" offers I'd been having problems with my service with sprint pcs, and I called to cancel my service. They assured me it was not their service, but a problem with my phone and offered to replace the Phone "FREE OF CHARGE" " to continue to please a loyal customer". I was Assured by the Sprint pcs representative that I would receive a phone in 5 days, but instead I received a bill for $60.00 dollars plus service charge and a card stating the phone is on back order and it would take aproximately 30 days to receive it. and if after the 30 days I had no phone then I could cancel without penalty.

I called the representative back, and said I was no longer interested in their service, I could not wait 30 days for a phone. I was told that they would take away the credit for the "FREE PHONE" and I was to be responsible for the amount of the phone plus my monthly bill, which would be about $100.00 dollars. I hope my experience with Sprint PCS is able to help anyone out there, to make sure they don't agree to any of their false promises. I was offered a free phone when I had decided to cancel service, they seemed so sincere with their offer , and said their policy was to keep the customer happy, because they valued their customers. little did I know of what I was getting my self into. Hope this will help anyone out there so they won't fall for the same line.
