RE: AT&T Wireless, Xenia, OH - billed for roaming when told that calls were not roaming calls
I was about to travel extensively in the US, and decided to call up AT&T wireless about their roaming policy on National cellular plans on Aug 17. The representative advised me to call customer service when in doubt. On Oct 26th, I was at Xenia,OH and the display changed to US 420.
I called up customer service from a payphone, the lady said dial 611 from your cellphone, if you reach AT&T wireless you are not roaming. I dialed 611, and got the AT&T voice prompt, and confirmed this with the representative.
I continued to use the phone over the next two days, when the display changed to Cingular. When I dialed 611, it went to Cingular. I called up the customer service on Oct 28th, to check is this was roaming. The rep said, if the display says anything but AT&T, I am roaming.
The next day I saw that AT&T had billed me for roaming, I called them up to complain about the bad advice. They now insist on charging me for the calls I made, despite the fact that their representative gave me wrong advice. Several calls and emails were exchanged since then between me and AT&T, but they have refused to budge.
Can you please help me with this?
Thank you
George John
