Buyer Beware
This is a long read but I believe it to be worth your while. I ordered a Digital camera From:
www.topchoicedigital.com at a great price on October 23, 2003. I had to call 1-877-724-6423 to confirm my order for some lame reason. The person I spoke to was very pushy and did a sales job pushing an additional memory card (Sandisk 256mb) for the camera.
It made perfect sense, but the price he was quoting was more than twice the cost of other venders. I listened to the impatience guy huffing and puffing on my speakerphone, as if he had somewhere else to go, while I compared prices on www.pricegrabber.com.
I informed him of the price differences and he immediately offered a Sandisk 512mb memory card at a reasonable price and I agreed to order the extra memory. November 10th, 18 days later, my order was finally delivered.
Instead of shipping a Sandisk 512md memory card, they sent two Microtec 256mb cards. I called on 11/12/2003 and complained. Their responds was "Oh, how did that happen, here is a RMA # and we will reimburse you for the shipping expenses". I shipped the memory cards back to Top Choice Digital that same day and the package was delivered on 11/14/2003.
I waited a few days and checked their web site looking for a ship date and a tracking #. It never happened!!! On 11/24/2003, over a month has past since I placed the original order, I spoke to a rude person about the problem and they informed me that the card was not in stock. I told her to cancel the order and credit my credit card for the memory card and the shipping expenses.
She put me on hold for over 15 minutes and then told me they could not reimburse my card because it was an RMA item. I asked to speak to her supervisor, he would not come to the phone, but I could hear him telling her what to say during our conversation. I explained to her that they should not have sold me or charged me for an item they did not have in stock, and they should not have substituted the Sandisk 512mb memory card with two Microtech 256mb cards without calling me first.
They had my phone numbers, what's the problem, I had to call to confirm the order, they should have called me to see if I would except the replacement item. After a few minutes of arguing and silent periods, she agreed to credit my card, but they would have to charge me a restocking fee. I asked her how they can charge me a restocking fee on something they never had in stock or never shipped to me in the first place. She gave up the argument and said she could not take this anymore.
I'm not sure if it was me or her supervisor or both she was talking about. I felt sorry for her but relieved. Now I'm waiting to see if they will actually credit my card. If not, that will be my . I hope you all got a laugh out this statement and learned from my mistake.
Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas
