RE: UBI Soft - XIII game - PC version - unable to play game - game buggy and crashing - upset about moderator replies on UBI Soft message board
UBI Soft just released a new game called XIII. It is out for the PS2, XBOX and PC platforms. My complaint is about the PC version of this game and UBI Soft business practices. Complaint #1: I have been reading about XIII for about a year now and was anticipating its release because it sounded like a good game. I paid my $40 at the local Electronics Boutique and went home to play the game. I am an avid gamer and purchase at least two games per month, but I have never experienced the type of issues that I did with XIII. I have bought some games that were buggy and crashed sure, but XIII wouldnt even play. Was it because the CD's were damaged? - No.
Was it because my hardware didnt meet the requirements? - No. How about a preexisting condition on my computer? - No. The issue is that the CD wouldnt read during single player game play. After the intro the game continually prompts for CD2. Being a patient soul and a computer engineer I looked for a patch to this issue on UBI.com. No luck. I then proceeded to the UBI.COM forums for an answer, and what I saw there was even more disturbing. This is where complaint #2 comes in. Complaint #2: This was indeed a problem that multiple people were having, but there were just empty posts with no response from the moderators. I started looking at the posts and what I saw were several instances of the moderators berating the very people that they were supposed to be helping. If someone brought up a legitimate question about the copy protection that was giving them issues they would be banned. I saw several people accused of being stupid 12 year olds by the moderators.
They may have been, but they denied it and were incredibly well spoken if they were. So not only did I not have a working game, I got banned from even asking questions and posting my opinion on their "help" forums. I am 30 years old, and I will not tolerate this kind of treatment as a consumer. I have filed a formal complaint about UBI soft with the MN Attorney General and the Better Business Bereau. If you want an idea about how many consumers would like to be treated it is simple.
Treat them with respect and we can forgive the issues that your software may have. Since the people that represent your company did not adhere to this simple principle UBI Soft will be the one that pays with a loss of business, and hopefully someday a class action lawsuit.
One more thing about your forum moderators. They continually said that they were not UBI Soft. If this statement is true then I suggest you remove them from your web site as they are making a bad situation worse. If you would like the chance to retain my business please respond to this email so that a refund or other solution can be discussed. If there is no response I will pursue whatever legal action is at my disposal. Thank you, J.
