I HAVE A GE SIDE-BY-SIDE REFRIDGERATOR THAT HAS BEEN A LEMON SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED. THE ICE MAKER WAS REPLACED 3 TIMES AND HAD NUMEROUS REPAIRS BY A GE QUALIFIED REPAIR PERSON.
AT ONE POINT, THE ICE MAKER SHREDDED PLASTIC AND MY DAUGHTER NEARLY INGESTED SMALL PIECES OF PLASTIC FROM HER ICE. THE REPAIR PERSON WHO HAS PERFORMED ALL OF THE WORK IS DOUG RUTLEDGE WITH HUSKER APPLIANCE, 4515 S GEROGIA, AMARILLO TX 79109 (806)342-5858.
HE TOLD ME THAT HIS RECORDS REFLECT THAT HE HAS WORKED ON THE UNIT AT LEAST 5 TIMES IN THE FIRST YEAR AND AT LEAST THAT MANY TIMES SINCE THEN. THE FAN MOTOR IS NOW GOING OUT AND THE UNIT IS AROUND 3 YEARS OLD. GE WOULD AGREE TO PROVIDE THE PARTS, BUT NOT THE LABER WHICH WILL RUN APPROXIMATLY $150.
THE APPLIANCE REPAIR MAN STATES THAT IT IS A PRETTY SIGNIFICANT JOB AND THERE ARE THREE COMPONENTS THAT NEED REPLACING. I HAVE ASKED G.E. TO REPLACE THE UNIT OR AT A MINIMUM PAY FOR THE LABOR AND PARTS GIVEN THE UNITS HISTORY OF PROBLEMS.
THEY TELL ME THAT THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF MY COMPLAINTS FROM THE TIME WHEN THE UNIT WAS NEW. HOWEVER, THE APPLIANCE REPAIR MAN HAS ORDERED NUMEROUS PARTS AND BILLED THEM FOR LABOR ASSOCIATED WITH THE UNITS WARRANTY WHEN IT WAS COVERED.
I DON'T FEEL THAT I SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING TO REPAIR A LEMON THAT THEY HAVE MANUFACTURED. I WOULD LIKE A REPLACEMENT FOR THIS UNIT AS I DON'T WANT THE EXPENSE AND BURDEN OF REPAIRING A DEFECTIVE UNIT. PLEASE ASSIST ME WITH ANY REMEDY.
