RE: Nationwide Financial Privacy Policy - policyholder's right to privacy limited - privacy policy statement reads there is no information disclosure opt-out possiblity According to the "Nationwide Financial Privacy Statement," which I received two days ago, Nationwide's respect for its policyholders' right to privacy entails disclosing the following information to any "business that carries out services and marketing for us":
* Social Security numbers * Beneficiaries * Family members * Assets and income * Property address and value * Credit history * Motor vehicle and driver data * Medical data * Employment data Quite obviously, by the time Nationwide gets done disclosing the above, people don't have much left in the way of privacy (as my wife says, "they might as well publish it in the newspaper"). Nevertheless, their Privacy Statement goes on to say that, because they don't sell personal information and only disclose it as described, "there is no need for an opt-out process at Nationwide Financial." With identity theft running rampant these days, I bitterly resent and vehemently oppose personal disclosures of any kind to vague entities of such questionable confidentiality as businesses that carry out services and marketing. I have written to the CEO of Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company (Mr. W. G. Jurgensen), the parent corporation for Nationwide Financial, requesting that Nationwide acknowledge and fulfill my right to opt out. His address is: W. G. Jurgensen Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company One Nationwide Plaza Columbus, OH 43215-2220 When I took out insurance with Nationwide, it was never my intention to authorize their use of my most sensitive personal information in any manner they deemed beneficial to their own economic interests.
