MCI - ongoing billing problems - getting billed for a phone line that has nothing to do with own account

Complaints.com received the following consumer message on November 4, 2002:

Dear Sir or Madam, SUBJECT: Wrong Billing by MCI and poor record keeping practices
Regarding Telephone number:
847-670-1453 I had MCI Neighborhood plan for my local, long distance and International phone calls in my old apartment. I moved out from that place on July 13th 2002. Before moving out, I called MCI on July 11th 2002 and placed a cancellation request on my phone services from July 13th 2002 onwards. Now MCI is sending me the bills from July 13th 2002 to September for that phone number. That bill also contains some International calls that I do not recognize.I called them to see what was going on. I was told by there Supervisor department that I am responsible for
all those calls even though I moved out of that place. They checked the records and found my cancellation request from July 13th onwards. I do not understand how I am responsible for the calls made on that phone when I had called and cancelled my phone services. They do have my cancellation request on their files; still they are giving me hard time. Instead of giving me hard time, they should enquire who has made those calls after I moved out of that place on July 13th 2002. Most probably the new tenants who moved into that apartment, might have made those calls. I will appreciate if you can please look into this matter and take sever action against MCI for using wrongful billing practices. Thank you, Regards, Ata Rehman
