From: RE: Oakwood Mobile Homes, Chattanogga, TN - interior sheetrock walls and ceilings look poorly - several other reasons for customer dissatisfaction

I recently bought a double wide mobile home from Oakwood Mobile Homes, Inc at 5701 Ringgold Road, Chattanooga, TN 37412.

I paid the dealer $5,000.00 extra for sheetrock interior walls and ceilings. I wanted the sheetrock to have a smooth finish. Someone at Oakwood made the decision to put a textures finish on sheetrock, so now I have walls and ceilings that look like they have a bad case of acne.

Even if I liked textured drywall finishing, these would be obnoxious as the walls look like someone took hands full of paint and throw it on the walls. Jim Hurney, a Oakwood office employee, wouldn't give me any keys to my home until about 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2002, and I had movers scheduled to place my furniture on Monday, August 26th.

By the time I saw the condition of the drywall, I couldn't cancel the moving company without incurring a severe penalty for them having to put my furniture back in storage. We moved in with the drywall in this horrible condition.

We had bought clothes washer and dryer, dishwasher, side by side refrigarator/freezer and microwave oven from Oakwood. The dishwasher was installed and a refrigerator with freezer on top was in the home. Oakwood delivered all appliances except microwave on August 26th. Heatpump unit wasn't installed until August 27th.

I paid Oakwood for concrete block/stucco skirting for the home. This wasn't applied until August 24th and 25th. We had a very hard rain on morning of August 25th and water ran under the blocks that block mason had installed on August 24th. There is no footing under the block work.

Rodents have burrowed under the blocks in two places. Cracks started appearing in the stucco about 2 weeks after the skirting was constructed. The block mason built the skirting around an open deck, instead of building it along the home wall and every time we have rain, water runs under the home.

Oakwood hasn't tried to correct any of these problems in the 2 plus months that we have been in the home. I have other issues with Oakwood that aren't as critical as these.

Oakwood apparently doesn't care about customer satisfaction.
