9 Lives - 9 Lives Cat Food Cans - unsafe openers on canned cat food
Posted on Tuesday, November 5th, 2002 at 12:00am CST by 84f9bd04
Product: Cat Food Cans
Company: 9 Lives
Category: Pets, Animals
Below is a copy of the complaint email I sent 9 Lives regarding their unsafe openers on canned cat food. Dear 9 Lives Folks, This message is regarding a safety issue. The "new, improved, easy-open" can on Super Supper is anything but. I marked it as a safety hazard and have been very careful when opening the cans because I saw how difficult it was to open and how easy it would be to cut oneself. Can openers don't work well on it because the lip is too deep.
This morning I opened a can, carefully peeling the top back until it hung up. I gingerly applied pressure away from my hand holding the can, knowing that too much pressure could cause the thing to let go suddenly and slice me, but it didn't bend the way I intended, let go quickly and sliced my thumb 1/4" deep.

It is Oct 2007, and obviously they have NOT corrected this problem. I always buy Friskies canned cat food, but decided I would try 9 Lives. Yes, their cans are so difficult to open. It is a struggle and the lids are very stiff. I just sliced my hand, 1/4" deep, 1 inch long. I had to go to the ER and get stitches.
