Geoffrey Beene Cuff Links - unable to engrave cufflinks properly

The other day my boyfriend and myself were in desparate need for cuff links for a wedding we would be attending later that afternoon. We went into Filene's in the Connecticut Post Mall in Milford and found a nice pair of Geoffrey Beene Cuff Links.

To me Geoffrey Beene had always meant a quality product so I didn't hesitate to purchase them. Later on we noticed that they were "engravable" or so that is what we thought since there was a tag on the inside stating this, so a couple weeks after the wedding we went to get the engraved. When we went to pick them up from the engravers we noticed that one cuff link that was engraved was noticeable copper under where the engraving was, but the other wasn't.

The engraver said that he would never change the tip of the machine he used to engrave it, and that it looked like since the cuff links were plated, copper was probably underneath. Looking closer we noticed that the other non copper cuff link did have a pinkish tinge to it, but the engraver must not have pressed as hard on this cuff link to make it that obvious. Now we are stuck with one normal looking cuff link and one that looks like it was done with pink engraving.

Why would they label these cuff links "engravable" if this could happen. The even worse problem is that even if we could take them back and get our money back, we lose the amount we spent on engraving them.....Is there any hope????
