We have a 2000 Ford Taurus and Our front hood latch will not release the hood. It has 31000 miles on it and its not covered under warranty.

They want $110.00 to fix it. If I can't pop the hod I can't check the oil or maintain the vehicle as required. Ford needs to correct this problem at onec.

I have written to Ford and yet have no response. Think twice before buying a Ford taurus no matter what year it is. John Bolinger

This problem is very common, as I own a 1996 and a 1998 Taurus.

The only way to open the hood is with two people. One person has to pull the hood release handle inside the cabin (assuming the cable is not broken) and another person has to press down on the center of the hood (simultaneously) close to where the hood approximates the front grill.

Service techs at Ford dealerships as well as private repair shops have to do this in order to open the hood.

This matter should have been addresses in a recall, but taking into account the large volume of vehicles sold, it would have been cost prohibitive for the manufacturer.

Other than the hood latch issue, a very good vehicle that was reasonably priced and should rival F 150 trucks for longevity.
