RE: DirecWay Two-way Satellite Internet service - slower than expected - frequent outages - poor technical support experiences
Despite DirecWay Two-way Satellite's claims of fantastic speeds, such is not the case, in my sitatuion. Most of my speed tests result in just over 300kbps down and less than 20 kbps up. These are intolerably S-l-o-w. I experience outages frequently (several times a month).
More than half of my outages are a result of bad weather near the DirecPC/DirecWay side of the solution. The DirecWay and DirecPC adds say that VPN works but not recommended. I wish I could get it work regularly. If you are planning on using this solution to connect to your office network, you will be just as well off with dial-up.
When VPN does connect, the connection is very slow. Don't even think about calling Support for assistance in getting a VPN connection to work. I tried that about 6 months ago. Calling for assistance will bring out the worst in the typically rude, uninformed, and unknowledgeable personnel. I have actually had one of them hang up on me when I asked to speak to the next level of support. Bottom line. My opinion: this solution is not worth the money for the equipment or the monthly fee. Speeds are not as advertised and support is of no help. If you don't have cable or DSL available in your area, don't waste your money on this solution, just gut it out and wait for a true Broadband solution in your area. Rex Fortner

Thanks a lot Ashley From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Monday, 18-Aug-08 05:25:49 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This |
