Re: Adaptec is a piece of garbage. This is a complaint towards Adaptec CD burning software, their service, and their lousy product in general. It's all right if you overlook this letter; however, if you experience problems with your Adaptec and remember that you saw this, or overlook it... I tried to tell you so. Earlier this year I bought an Adaptec CD recorder/writer with their software package. My problem is, and has been, unreliable use when I try to backup data using Adaptec. I have a PIII 500 with 192 MB,

so I have the speed and memory. Also, as recommended, I turn off all background running software such as my virus scan, and others. I also tried to run the recorder at a slow speed with the test feature before it starts to read, write/record. My intent is to backup large quantities quickly, which I can't. I can, however, move around files and folders individually. BFD. But the intent is to backup my whole system quickly. I can't. I used Adaptec CD creator rather unsuccessfully. After doing all of the above, and after the program had finally completed recording my data files, I found that the HTML were blank, and the JPEG's could not to read. What a waste of my time and CD's! According to Adaptec's CD creator, it had copied successfully (showing no errors). BS. (This is common.) I tried to copy through Windows and have run into problems there too. Using DOS,

I did an xcopy from the hard drive directly to the burner. Problems again. After four wasted CDs, and after countless hours of fooling with this piece of junk, I have not been able to backup my data...and that's only today. Is this what I bought this recorder for? Does it work? Hell no. I have done the usual as many of you would have --uninstalling and reinstalling the software, but to no avail.

Adaptec is just wasting my time. These problems not only happened today, but numerous times before. It's only today I decided to let others know of my experience. I don't have time to sit here and fight with this unreliable piece of crap, or write to Adaptec anymore. Why bother? (Below.) You people ought to take a hint. I reported this recurring problem to get advice, or maybe an update. (Maybe bad software?) On three separate occasions this past year, I wrote to the web site for tech support. I guess I couldn't get through since they require a serial number that I can't find (despite their instructions). So it's a catch 22: no

serial number, no registration, no tech support--even after I paid for it. (Just like Namo web software, another loser I was dumb enough to buy. But that's another story.) Although I didn't have the serial number, I wrote that I was willing to e-mail or fax a copy of my receipt. These a--holes couldn't even respond with a canned answer. So now I'm stuck with a piece of shit. This is the pride of Adaptec--their lousy product and worthless tech support. There must be better products out there other than this worthless piece of garbage. I helped my friend install Nero that came with his burner. I regret that I didn't look into it before I bought Adaptec. Whether I buy Nero or some other product, I sure as hell will not by Adaptec. As far as a backup, I would've been better

off installing a second hard drive, for that matter. Slip-shod products + a contemptible, unresponsive attitude towards consumers = one very pissed off customer. Screw Adaptec and their f--ing brother and sister companies. Go to hell Adaptec...and take your [***edited***] too. R. Geherken
