RE: Anchor Hocking green glass oven proof baking pan - exploded into little pieces I had a green glass oven proof baking pan explode and I do mean explode, while using it a few weeks back. I believe but am not positive, that it was made by Anchor Hocking. The pan was green with a fruit design in it. I had purchased it over 2 years ago, it came in a set with a bowl and lid and the baking pan. I had used both of them numerous times before and mostly in the oven.

On this particular day, I had taken the pan out of the cabinet and put some boiled macaroni in it. After about 45 seconds, as I was putting a spoon in it to stir, it exploded, sending millions of pieces of glass across my kitchen and cutting the top of my foot. I have never seen anything like it, it sounded like a gunshot when the explosion happened. I called my friend the next day because I had given her this same set for Christmas about 2 years previously.

To my surprise, she told me the same thing had happened to her about 6 months ago but with the bowl. She had put cooked hot rice in hers when it exploded. I have also found one other entry of a very similar thing happening with a blue oven proof Anchor Hocking glass dish exploding while in use in the microwave.

The purpose of this note is advise anyone else who may own similar glassware to stop using it. It has the potential to cause great harm, especially if there are small children in the kitchen who could be hit in the face. Would also be interested in hearing from anyone else who may have had similar incidents.

Just put an anchor clear glass bowl in the microwave tonight and after about 30 seconds I heard a crack. About 3 inches of the top broke off. I removed it from the microwave and headed a few steps to the trash can and the rest of it cracked into pieces in my hand and onto the floor by my bare feet. These things are dangerous! Why are they still on the market and listed as microwave safe.

The same thing happened to me 4 years later. As I took the pan out of the oven it exploded and some pieces burnt my carpet. I strongly advise everybody not to use or buy this kind of cookware, as it is indeed very dangerous.
