The 1996 El Dorado is an amazing vehicle. It rides nice, has plenty of power, is comfortable and apart from the constant wind noise is perfect to drive. But, maintenance costs take the pleasure out of the ownership of this car.

While I have experienced several of the electrical "glitches" mentioned elsewhere (including power seats with minds of their own) my biggest complaint is the "fan motor/evaporator housing" that has completely disintegrated. The plastic material that it is constructed of will now crumble between your fingers and needs to be replaced due to the large chunks of it that have fallen away. To add insult to injury, it is going to cost approximately $1500 to replace.

The engine has to be lowered from the vehicle to reinstall the new part. Cadillac states that the vehicle, with an average of 8000 miles per year, has too many miles for them to correct the problem and further states that it is not a manufacturing defect.

The supplier of the replacement for this defective part said that mine was the third he has received an order for this week. This part is also utilized on the Seville, STS, SLS . . . bad design and poor quality materials . . . is this what Cadillac wants to be known for? Michael
