RE: Applebee's Bar and Grill, NM Capital Circle, Tallahassee, FL - poor service experience

On May 1st we had a very poor service encounter with a hostess at the Tallahassee Applebee's located on NM Capital Circle. We entered the restaurant and put our name on a waiting list for a table in non-smoking.

We were told we would wait about twenty minutes. Fifteen minutes later our table was ready and we followed the hostess to our seat. She began to put us at one of the round tables in the bar area. As she was doing so I

politely asked if we could be seated somewhere else, further away from the people at the bar who were all smoking. My family and I are non-smokers and the smell takes away from the enjoyment of our experience. What came next I was least expecting. The hostess looked at me, quickly picked up the menus, rolled her eyes, and let out a loud sigh. She then turned and walked away from us; we assumed we were to follow her, so we did. As we were following her we passed another employee. The hostess looked at this other employee and again rolled her eyes, this caused the employee to laugh and then stare at my family and I.

We then walked up a few stairs where there were some empty tables. She took the menus threw them down on one of the tables and walked away. At first I stood in astonishment in what I had just seen, and I thought about leaving based on the service that I had just been given. But we stayed, and thankfully she was not our waitress that evening. Our waiter was a friendly, excellent server. Since my experience I have not yet returned to an Applebee's. I find my experience to be the only thing that comes to my mind each time I think of them. My family and I felt like such an inconvenience, which is not

something I look for when I am paying for a service.
