RE: AT&T Wireless - changed AT&T Wireless number when moved to different location - unfairly billed as a result - trouble with customer service
I signed up for a two-year wireless plan in May 0f 2002. After 5 months, I moved and had to change my phone number, never cancelling the service. Just a number change. One month later I get a notice from ATT WS saying I owe them $37.50 for not sending in the two year agreement. Coincidence???? I don't think so. They say they never received their agreement.
It took five months for them to notify me, and it happened to be after I changed the number. After several phone calls trying to resolve the issue they said they would send me a new agreement that would start from the current day, and extend for two years.
That is not what I signed up for originally. I requested the agreement be back dated to May 02 and end May 04. They said no. It would start August 02 and terminate August 04. Finally, I gave up and said to send the agreement. They never sent it and I just received a notice from a collection agency. It is not the money that is a big deal but the fact that their mistake will now affect my credit. They failed to follow through on their end, and it gets even worse.
Trying to have the staff help you out is impossible. I think ATT WS is very much at fault and the poor choice in their hires is a direct reflection on how poorly management runs the company. I think it is consumer fraud that they can wrongfully submit a bill on a customer and if the customer doesn't pay it that it gets sent to a collection agency. There is not any consistency between employees either as you can never talk to the same person twice. Each person I speak to has a different opinion and it makes it virtually impossible to make any progress. I do not suggest anyone enter into any kind of agreement with this company.
