RE: The Place Furniture Galleries, Farmingdale, NY - want money back

I am having a terrible problem with a furniture store that I had the misfortune of buying from in January. iordered and paid for a dining room set on january 27,2002. I gavce a $1000 deposit and told them I wanted delivery in April or May. It is even on my bill. When I called them to arrange a delivery date I was given the date of may 2. I arranged to take the day off from school and was then called on may 1to be told that my furniture had been damaged in transit and that they would call me the next day too arrange another delivery date. I hurriedly tried to get my day of rescinded and waited for their call the next day. the call never came. I was left on hold on a long distance call for 20 minutes when a rep said that my table had been damaged and that she woukd get back to me the next day. That call never came. On Saturday I called them again and was given three different stories from three different people.

the last being that they had to wait to see what containers would come in with my new replacement set. Finally on Monday I received a call that they has SOLD MY SET--BY MISTAKE OF COURSE to someone else and that they could not get me the same set again. After I called them again--the manager spoke to my

son and said that I was to come down and pick out a new set at a discounted price. They are in farmingdale. I live in Brooklyn. I was assured that there were other similar styles in their showroom. I took the night

off from my school--cost to me out of pocket--$200, plus gas etc to go to the showroom. When we got there they coukd not find the furniture, then they could not find the catalog with equitable furniture and they had the audacity of trying to pass us on from one person to another.

After wasting over two hours there I asked for my refund and was told to call them tomorrow to find out when the check would be mailed to me. This is not acceptible. They have had my money for over three months. They sold my set. I painted and refinished my room to acccomodate the new set. I sold my old set in anticipation and was locked into accepting a new wall unit that matched the set to a certain extent. How can they be allowed to do this? I work two jobs and while my sale may not have been a huge one it was something I had been saving for for a long time. Mr. Aarons. You are the savior of the little people. I want to see them be as hurt as I am.

I want not only my money back but the money I spent needlessly to go again to them and for the interest I am losing in the bank. I want them punished. I want money for the preparation I did for the new set. I should not have to wait for them. Please sir, help me exact revenge on a company that thinks so little of its customers that it sells their goods from under them. I can assure you that they would be suing me if I had reneged on the contract I signed in good faith.

I purchased a dining room set on January 27, 2002 Incidentally, I have a taped message from them saying that the owner woud give me a substantial discount if I bought something else. Unfortunately, the treatment I received today precluded any future dealings with this unscrupulous organization.

Again thank you for your help

My 87 year old grandmother bought a living room set from "The Place" in Farmingdale. They promised her delivery in 4 weeks. Her set took over 3 months. The day of delivery they sent the wrong Sofa. They were so NASTY to us on the phone. They didn't do anything for her. They told her to "Get over it! There are worse things to worry about"! I would never buy from THE PLACE!!! They are NASTY, RUDE AND THE FURNITURE IS CRAP!!!
