RE: Valor Telecom - being held accountable for calls to Madagascar that did not make
Wednesday, May 08, 2002 To whom it may concern: I am having a problem with Valor telecom. They opened an account for me after I had moved out of an apartment and are holding me responsible for over 1000.00 worth of International Phone calls to Madagascar in June. They claim I abandoned my account. My issue is I called to close the account in March or April 2001 when I was having financial troubles. They informed me I would have to pay the past-due balance before they could terminate my service entirely, as it was then cut-off. I actually went into their walk-in location to do so, and the person there informed me they couldnt close my account for me either. Under direction of my attorney, Mark Robinson, and the Valor representative I let it alone as I was including them in a bankruptcy case. I filed for Ch. 7 bankruptcy against them, which dissolved my debt against them. I made no further contact with them, as when I filed, I had to move to a less-expensive apartment and it is in SWB territory.
Valor, without my knowledge, reestablished services in my name after another person had move into the apartment. The sent the bills to the former address as well, which were returned. They were aware that my contact information had changed as it was provided to them on the bankruptcy notice. They never sent any bills to me, I did not learn of the account until several months later, when a collection agency contacted me on behalf of MCI, as they placed the international calls, that Valor routed to them from the bogus account.
I understand I am quite past due on these bills, as the habitually remind me that I owe more and more. I refuse to pay for something I did not do, and need help with this. If you feel that you can help me, please contact me at your convenience. It will be greatly appreciated.
