Amazon.com - paid for overnight shipping for DVD, but it was not delivered overnight - want refund of extra overnight charges

Complaints.com received the following consumer message on May 27, 2002:

This might sound petty, and I am actually surprised that I have something to complain about Amazon.com. I have been a loyal and active customer of theirs for about 5 years and until now, never had anything but praise for the company. However, something has happened now to me which indicates a huge change in their company policies and I am not only disappointed, but more-than-a-little angry. I pre-ordered a DVD in February which was scheduled to be released on May 28th. I almost never do this, but I paid extra for overnight shipping.

They shipped it to me Friday and when it did not arrive, I emailed their customer service department to request that since I was obviously NOT going to receive the item in one day as I had paid for, I would like to have the overnight charges reversed and a regular shipping charge billed to my credit card instead. I am attaching the correspondence between myself and the customer service department. Perhaps I am being unreasonable, but I truly believe that if they KNEW it could not arrive overnight as I had paid for, they should have notified me of such and NOT charged it in the first place.
