RE: Two Small Men with Big Hearts Moving Co. - items damaged during move

We had this company move our bigger things from our home to our new residence on April 29th 2002. We discovered that one of our TV's had no picture but had sound. Upon further investigation we discovered that there was damaged to the back of the set and most definitely had been dropped. I called the company to talk to the owner on May 2, 2002 the day after we found the damage and I left a message at about 9:30AM to have the owner call me back.

The person I talk to said that he WOULD be in the office in the afternoon and he would call me back. I waited until 4:30PM and decided to call back. I talked to an older man who wanted all the details but I told him I had left a detailed message that morning and would appreciate a call back from the owner. He said he would be in the next day. I left a message to have the owner call me back. I waited until 10:00AM the next day and I called the office again looking for the owner. I talked to an older women who told me he was out of town. I asked her when he would be back as I was told just the previous day that he would be in and he would call me back.

She said she didn't know so I told her I didn't believe her and asked her what kind of business is this that the owner goes out of town and no one knows when he will return and he leaves no one in charge in his abcense to run the business. I told her that if I didn't get a call back by that afternoon then this business could talk to a lawyer instead. I received a call from the owner's son. He asked if he could come and see the damage with one of the movers at about 4:30PM that day and I said yes he could. He then called back and asked if he could come by earlier like around 2:00PM and I said fine.

He showed up with both the guy's who moved us and all the while he was here hardly said two words and allowed the one mover to basically call me a liar. The mover asked me what was going on here right after I told my story so I told him again that he dropped and damaged our TV that is what was going on here. He basically sat there and insinuated that we ourselves damaged our TV. He would not admit to it. The son told me that his father would call me that evening.

I did not get a call so I called back to the office the next day and the son pretty much accused us of being at fault because the employee was denying it. I asked him why does he think we got mover's for , so we could lift the heavy stuff ourselves? He was rude on the phone and I told him to have his father call me with his decision and his father (Peter Mahil Sr) never did call us. Our moving bill was $387.65 + $34.00(tip) + the damage cost us $82.44 fix.

Sincerely,

Barb Guigueno
