Distt Co-operative Bank Ltd Jarwal Road Bahraich (UP) - savings account - claim after death

Complaints.com received the following consumer message on April 30, 2002:

RE: Distt Co-operative Bank Ltd Jarwal Road Bahraich (UP) - savings account - claim after death Sir, My father-in-law died on 03 Sep 2001. He had a saving bank account in Distt Co-operative Bank Ltd Jarwal

Road Bahraich (UP) which has a credit balance of Rs. 1,21,095.00. To claim the above amount my mother-in-law has submitted deceased claim for the same in accordance with policy letter issued by the head office of the above bank and in guidelines provided by respective Branch Manager during Jan 2002 but the same has not been remitted to my mother-in-law's account.

The documents submitted with the branch are Death certificate, Extract from Family Register of the village, Indemnity Bond, Power of Attorney from all legal heirs in the name of my mother-in-law, pass book. I am serving in the Army therefore in order to ensure timely and sppedy payment I have also written application to the Secretary, Distt Co-operative Bank Ltd Bahraich with a copy to Manager.

In spite of my or my mother-in-law's requests/reminders in writing/telephonically no action has been taken. Now after a lapse of four months bank is verbally saying for Succession Certificate which is no where mentioned in their policy letter.

My father-in-law had another two saving bank account in Punjab National Bank Jarwal Road Bahraich and Gramin Bank Ltd Jarwal Road Bahraich which has also credit balance of amount nearly Rs.70,000/- in each branch has aleady been paid to my mother-in-law within fifteen days. Please advise me to file a case in consumer forum against the branch.

My mother-in-law is also bonafide customer of Distt Co-operative Bak Jarwal Road Bahraich (UP) and she is regularly drawing pension.
