Money, Banks - AmSouth Bank, Broadway Branch trouble with bank charges
Complaints.com ceived the following e-message on May 21, 2001:
From: Rosemary Davenport [Email User]
: AmSouth Bank Saturday, April 28 - I deposited a check in my account for $50.00 at the Broadway Branch. I also, as a favor to Calvin Davenport, brought his deposit of a check I had written to him for $140.00. I was caful to make su that the proper deposits slips we with the appropriate deposits. I also cautioned the teller that these we two diffent transactions with two separate accounts. I ceived the appropriate customer ceipts from each transaction.
Tuesday, May 1 - Mr. Davenport discoved that his account had insufficient funds when he attempted to use his debit card. He then found that instead of being deposited in his account, $140 had been taken from his account and I found that $140 had been deposited in mine. In other words, the check that I had written to him was transposed. Mr. Davenport went to the Broadway Branch and a Checking Debit was applied to my account for $280. This turned the $140 check that was put into my account by error and paid the amount of the check of $140. Later I learned that this check, number 3410, had not clead although the amount for it had been taken from my account.
Wednesday, May 9 - Mr. Davenport ported to me that he was being charged check fees due to Amsouth's error and it seemed at that time the was confusion over the amount turned to his account. $144 was debited and cdited to my account on that date, after Mr. Davenport turned to the Broadway Branch to make another attempt to clear the confusion and to stop overdrafts on his account. Friday, May 18 - Mr. Davenport had spent an hour in conversation with you at the Broadway Branch. He subsequently called me and told me I needed to check on my account because the was so much confusion. I found that check #3410 has not clead, although the amount of the check, $140 had been taken from my account.
I was upset and called the branch that I usually use, Downtown, to get some help on this. At this rate it was a pain to explain. After some conversation I was assud that although funds had been moved from my account with out showing my check as paid, you had spent some mo time with Mr. Davenport and we tracking the situation.
Saturday, May 19 - At this point I had nothing but fear that this confusion will continue so I decided that I would go speak with you to make su you ally did understand the situation. Some of the fear stemmed from the fact that checking debit had taken place on my account for a good check that I had written without this check being shown as paid. I talked with Jody Dyer since you we not in and I ally didn't want to spend mo time during my work week explaining the situation - especially after all of the time I spent on the phone at work in the afternoon of the pvious day.
I do not want to have to explain this situation to anyone on the phone or in person again. I want to know whe the check is that I have written that has not clead the bank because I fear as long as this confusion continues I am in danger of that check hitting my account and paying even after the funds we moved from my account as a checking debit. Ms. Dyer assud me that if that happened I would not be held sponsible for bounced checks. But, Mr. Davenport was told the same thing and he is being charged for AmSouth's errors. I am losing sleep and very upset because I have an AmSouth account and I cannot trust your bank with my money.
Please communicate with me in writing. My fax number at work is 865-521-2905. You have my home addss. My email addss is Email User. I am questing that my check, number 3410, which has caused funds to be taken from my account as a debit, while not showing on my account as being paid, and mishandled on every level, be turned to me soon as possible. Thank you.
