RE: Gold's Gym, Rivergate, TN - failed attempt to cancel gym membership
Luckily a friend referred me to your web site I have a complaint against Gold's Gym in the Rivergate, TN. area. According to their contract, an individual may cancel their membership after their year is up with a 30 day written notice.
At the beginning of January 2003, I asked them for a form to fill out to cancel my membership. The woman at the desk told me that they were waiting for more forms to come in the mail. So, I came back the following Monday to pick up a form as she requested.
At that time, another woman said that they have a new policy about canceling memberships saying that I would have to call an out of state number to cancel. So I reluctantly called the long-distance number and left a message for a man's voice mail I asked him to call me back to confirm that my membership was canceled. I even gave him my work 800-number. I never received a call back. In my February's bank statement, I noticed that I was still charged for the Gym membership.
I should not have been charged. They misrepresented themselves and misinformed my of proper cancellation policies for the gym. I am very unhappy about the way the gym's employees represented themselves and gave me false information. I will not have to have my attorney call them about getting my money back and finalizing the cancellation of my membership that they claim is so easy to cancel. CRH - Nashville, TN.
