Re: TriStar Vacuum Cleaner sales tactics

I am still reeling from a "visit" from a TriStar Vacuum Cleaner sales person. One of your prior complaints (logged to this compaints.com web site on Nov 26, 2002) completely and accurately describes our experience -- it was horrible. A couple of additions:

The company caller that set up the appointment told us it was for an air purifier system and it would only take 10 minutes for us to answer a survey. It took 1 hour & 20 minutes to demonstrate a Tri-Star Vacuum Cleaner which was hidden outside the front door. She didn't bring it in until she said she wanted to show us something. When we refused to buy the vacuum cleaner for $2500 until we researched it on the internet, a quick call was made to her "boss" and suddenly the price dropped by half (the EFN deal reported in the prior complaint). I had surreptitiously gone to the computer and done a quick look while she was talking and discovered I could get one for half her original quote...so I wasn't surprised when the price dropped dramatically. Our gift was a 3 day vacation, and when I asked about it, the salesperson acted bewildered. Not until I pressed the issue did she admit that she had it with her and would provide it to us..... a visit to a time-share resort, which could only be claimed if we agreed to sit through their spiel during the visit. In addition we had to pay $50 out-of-pocket to make the reservation and it would not be refunded until we got to the resort. Of course, all transportation was on us! Once it was clear we were not buying, her attitude changed immediately and became extremely testy. A last call to her boss revealed that in her opinion we had a filthy house -- brand new house barely lived in and relatively empty!!! When I kept telling the salesperson we had to leave, since I had only allotted 10 minutes, she kept slowly cleaning all the parts of the vacuum cleaner and putting it away -- just as reported in the prior complaint. Very rude.
