The plugs Precision Tune installed on 11/14/02 were Bosch spark plugs, according to service order number 238121. The dealer’s invoice says they installed “plug assy-spark number 18814-11051 RBIC. I have no idea what that means, but the mechanic told me orally and then wrote on the invoice “wrong plugs put into vehicle on previous service elsewhere. Have now been replaced by us. Would have caused vehicle problems at later time.” I hope that means he thinks they got them out before they caused actual damage. I’m so worried that they will invalidate my warranty, at least in part, because of this. Jolinda Stephens

The Precision Tune on Asher in Little Rock, AR replaced the spark plugs on my 2000 Hyundai Elantra in November during the 30,000 mile tune up. At that time the wires were fine. Last Friday my engine light came on and I had to wait until Monday to get it fixed, paying for a car rental because the dealer advised me that the car could not be driven. The dealer called to tell me that Precision Tune had put the wrong spark plugs in.

The dealer charged me $56 to do that because that is a maintenance item. They also had to replace a spark plug wire which was warranteed. The dealer returned the bad spark plugs and wrote up a note indicating the spark plugs were wrong and could cause serious damage to the vehicle. If I understand my warrantee correctly, Hyundai could void the warrantee because bad parts were put in. The auto has to be maintained to qualify for the 60 month bumper-to-bumper warrantee. For all I know, at some point, if the maintenance gets too high, they could decide to do so. I returned to Precision Tune with the spark plugs and the statement and the manager refused to pay for the correct spark plugs to be put in.
