RE: Nextel - couldn't cancel due to 1 year contract - changed to $ 6.00 per month 'standby' at suggestion of Nextel - this, unknowingly, but another 1 year contract into effect - so still couldn't cancel one year later FEB 2002 I called Nextel to cancel my phone due to bad signal all the time with their phone and walkie talkie. I was told that it is because I have the cheapest nextel phone model. I was talked into getting their expensive phone model instead of cancelling it.
Offered a second phone for a half price. I used it for a couple of weeks and got the same problem as the old model. Called again to cancel the service and was told i cannot cancel it anymore because i signed a year contract when i bought the newer phone model.
They told me that i can put my service into standby for one year where i will only pay $6 not including tax and other FCC fees per phone for one year instead of the original monthly service fee until my contract is over i tried to pay the penalty fee for early termination of contract but was told of many excuses.
So I payed and waited until my contract is over w/o using their service and called them again that my contract is over so i want to cancel it now. Put me on hold for 1 hr and was told that i cannot cancel it since i put my service on standby.
WHAT A SCAM! Nextel told me that i can only cancel it if i paid the early termination of contract fee. BUT MY CONTRACT IS OVER! So i got me a lawyer and paid his service to get my pocket out of the Nextel scam.
