SONY TRINITRON 35 inch TV - automatically shutting off and going into standby / timer mode

Bought a 35" Sony Trinitron TV in April 1998. Has been automatically shutting off and going into standby / timer mode since January 2002. It flashes, like taking a picture, before shutting off. The power never goes out. When we turn it back on, it moves into video1.

The frequency has increased considerably of late, for example, it shuts off within 3 minutes of being powered on.

I'm really disappointed at the quality of this product. We spent nearly $1600 on this just 3 years ago. The repairs would cost about $1000. The name brand "SONY" has not lived upto its supposedly "reliable and prestigious" name. Good quality product from SONY ???

Thanks

Jitender
