information on Engine Knock on Cold Start

2001-2002 Chevrolet and GMC ********Pickup and Utility Models with 6.0l Engine (vin U--RPO LQ4) Some of the above vehicles may exhibit an engine knock noise that begins in the first sevewral thousand miles/kilometers of use.

The knock noise is most often noticed during initial start-up and typically disappears as the engine warms up. The noise is usually more noticeable on the initial start-up when the temperature is below 50degree **** or if the vehicle has not been used for several days.

This noise may be caused by an interaction between the piston and the cylinder wall. GM powertrain Engineering, and an analysis of engine returned with this condition, has confirmed that the noise is not detrimental to the performance, reliability or durability of the engine.

The noise does not have any effect on th longevity of any of the engine components.

IMPORTANT At this time, replacing the engine assembly or pistons will not eliminate this noise. customer assistance tel 1-800-222-1020 ...dah..........If you dont have parts to fix it...If you dont offer a replacement engine..then you should refund amount paid by owner...MAGNUS-MOSS breech of warranty law..Dont let GM bull...you take action..

Be sure to let Chevrolet know; my 3500 has 215k miles and just let go; it demonstrated the same conditions as stated in the original comment. I just bought a new 3500 diesel for about 45 grand; hope to get better results.***Note engine oil was changed every 5k (synthetic); also note it used oil from day one about a quart every 2to3k. It is a 2001 and i still owe 3800$ on it with a blown engine. Ford or Dodge looking good for my next purchase.

I have an o2 Suburban, same problem as others. Engine knocks on startup. Has gotten significantly worse lately. I took it to our local Chevy dealership and they said I need a new engine....

Looking at new Toyota today!
