RE: Kenmore Elite with Calypso Wash Motion - purchased from Sears in Oct., 2000 - replaced in Feb., 2001 under recall - ongoing repair problems
I'm very disappointed with my Kenmore Elite with Calypso Wash Motion. We purchased it from Sears 10/02/2000 for $1099.99. Later Sears had a recall for that Washing machine and gave us the option of having it fixed or a new replacement.
We elected to have the new replacement and we received another one 2/16/2001. This recall was because the Wash Basket did not stop instantly when opening the Lid. Around the first week of June 2003 we started getting a trouble indication of "CA" or "CI" on the digital display which indicates (Current Limit). In the Troubleshooting section of the washer manual, it ask "Is the washer overloaded?"
I tried without any clothes in the washer and still got the same message. So, we called Sears 800 Number and they set up an appointement for the following Monday for a Sears repairman to check it out. Monday came and a Sears person called and said that she was just handed this request and the repairman would not be able to come today. So they scheduled me again for the following Monday.
The repairman arrived June 23rd, 2003 and he started checking the problem out. He quoted me at first around $250.00 to have it repaired then changed it to $369.00. I pulled out the parts list from the washer manual and he said I would need a Leveler, Nut Lock and a seal for the inner washplate. I went upstairs and discussed the situation with my wife and we concluded that for a few hundred dollars more we could have a new washing machine.
We declined to have it repaired and paid the repairman $59.00 for his visit. You would think that paying over 1K for a washing machine that it would be durable and long lasting. Are children are grown and not living with us, so just me and my wife used the washer. I have bought alot of Sears products over 10 years and will not allow this to happen again. Very disappointed consumer.
