I hired Discount Moving and Storage out of Columbia Maryland for a move from a 1bdrm apartment to another apartment about 5 miles away. The following is how the day went: Crew was 3 hours late and arrived disgruntled about having been called into work that day. The job was quoted at 3 hours (standard for a 1 bdrm apartment) - so the 2 man crew got started. They proceeded to take 4 hours just LOADING up the truck and managed to bang every wall in the process.
They got lost on the 5 mile drive to the new place. Once they found the new place, one member of the crew went for a nap in the freight elevator while my friend and I unloaded the boxes in the truck ourselves.
The sleeping crew member then decided it was ok to hurl boxes marked "fragile" off of a dolly and into my apartment. I watched them break my dresser and fold my brand new king size mattress in half. They refused to move anything farther than the family room. The job took 6 hours and I did the heavy moving myself. I filed a complaint and quoted the following items: 12 Broken Glasses 6 Broken wine glasses 2 broken candle holders 1 broken dresser 1 scratched desk 1 broken entertainment unit Brand New Mattress - folded so the frame is now bent (and therefore the mattress is done) and 4 large holes in the bottom Crew sleeping on the job so it took twice as long as need be The owner of the company proceeded to send me $116.00 for damages and will not talk to me, my lawyer, or my father.
