RE: 2000 Grand Cherokee - rear axle froze up at 54,000 miles

I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee that has 54,000 miles. While driving 4 hours away from home, the entire rear axle froze up. After having it towed to a Chrysler dealer, they informed me I would need a new rear axle - The bearing inside the axle broke, and took out everything else. Since I just had new tires, rotors turned and pads, I asked the mechanic why this wasn't noticed. He informed me that they could of had your car 15 minutes before it went bad and not noticed, due to this bearing being enclosed. Chrysler "regretfully" informs me that they only cover 36,000 miles...... I can not believe they advertise these Jeeps able to climb mountains, jump cliffs, etc....and last forever, and yet mine has never seen a two-track and falls apart.... I can not afford this cost, nor should I considering the cost of this vehicle, and how new it is!!! I intend to fight Chrysler, and let others know to stay clear from their products. They demand vendors to be perfect with zero defects, and allow their products to go out with faulty parts. Jalene Woods
