RE: AOL - trouble with account cancellation I have been an AOL member since 2000. I called AOL customer service on 5/31/03 to cancel my account. I was told by a few people that AOL customer service would not let me cancel my account easily. They told me to come up with a good lie when canceling AOL account.
I called AOL on 5/31/03. A customer service guy sounded nice but kept on asking the reason of my cancellation. I told him that I was here in US for business and had to go back.(I thought he would let me cancel without hassle) He offered me a free access until next billing cycle (around June 11 or 12). He told me to call back around that time and cancel my account.
I called AOL again on 6/12/03. This time a customer service representative was not that nice. He tried so hard to convince me not to cancel. He also told me that my account was billed for next month service even though the other guy told me my account would not be billed if I called before my billing cycle. I was on the phone for more than 15 minutes.(Friend of my spent 1 hour on the phone with AOL customer service trying to cancel his account)
He finally realized that I was not going to change my mind. Then he turned very nasty. He tried to end our conversation without giving me confirmation number or his name. Customer service is there to support customers needs. If I need to cancel my account, they have to let me do that.
Why do I have to explain the whole story why I have to cancel my account? I maybe just feel like to cancel it or I found a better provider.
AOL customer service is very pushy and unreasonable and doesn't want to listen what customers have to say. I will never want to deal with AOL. I am so sick of their service and really upset that why I have to feel scared to cancel an account. I 'LL NEVER GO BACK TO AOL. I'LL NEVER RECOMMEND AOL TO ANYONE I KNOW!
