abc distributing - concerns about privacy related to placing order

Complaints.com received the following consumer message on June 18, 2002:

RE: abc distributing - concerns about privacy related to placing order

I received the following email from abcdistributing. [Please note that I had placed an order with them.] The email is addressed to me, BUT, it is for another customer (B Brotherton). I have put XXXXX where abc had disclosed to me her account number and place of employment. I notified them by phone and by email. The person on the phone in April and again, Last week, neither understood nor cared the enormity of the situation. THEIR SITE IS NOT ONLY NOT SECURE - THEIR DATABASE IS HOSED.

You never know who is going to wind up with your information!!! I sent them an email in April and a scathing email on June 13, 2002 after my last phone conversation about the problem and closed my account. I have never heard from anyone since April!

Do you really want to do business with an organization that cannot ensure your privacy. Just from the name and place of business, I was able to find out who the person was, where the business was located and of course her abc account number. Had I chosen, I could have gone further or better yet used her account number to order products. Instead I called her and let her know what was going on. You decide what you want to do, but... Yes, errors are made, but when no one cares enough to even reply to my emails about such a serious error - I want nothing to do with them.
