RE: J.C. Penny Credit Card - used card for 40 years - use recently declined - husband's name on card I was visiting the Patriot Mall in Newport News Virginia. I was going to make a purchase and my J.C. Penny credit card use was denied by a clerk because the card has Richard D. Bennett printed on it. I have had this card for over 40 years. I was the one who made the original request for a card.
Since it was over 40 years, I think I probably used Mrs. Richard D. Bennett as a name for the card. My husband also has his own card. At Penney's discretion The Mrs. Mr. Ms. was not put on the card. My signature was on the card and I had other identification. I make most of the purchases and make all the payments on the card in my name Elsie R. Bennett.
No payment was ever refused. I was totally disgusted and embarressed as other people were standing there. The clerk called your 800 number and asked if anyone other than Mr. Bennett could use the card. She then told me, ask your husband to give you permission to charge on his card. More outrage from a professional person who worked for many years.
When you changed your policy of not using Mrs, Mr. Ms on the cards you should have notified the customer. I have decided there are many department store choices out there and I believe JC Penneys needs its loyal customers more than I need JC Penneys. I will not use my card nor shop in any store across the country. Elsie R. Bennett ( look at your slips and payments for the last 40-50 years)
