RE: First Capital Consumer Group - MAJOR SCAM
I was contacted by First Capital Consumer Group about 10 days ago. They offered me my choice of Visa or Mastercard with 2000 or 2500 dollar limits respectively. At least I think thats what they offered because the english spoken was so terrible I had to speak to a "manager" after being combative with the marketer. That should have clued me in, but it didn't.
After speaking with the "Manager" about their offer, It sounded good and in line with other offers I have recieved from so although reluctantly, I gave up my checking account information. Having bad credit myself, I am resigned to the fact that in trying to re-establish my credit, a secured card or a "pay for it" unsecured card is somewhat necessary.
I was told that someone would call in 20 minutes to verify my account, and then the person promptly hung up. 25 minutes later, I recieved the verification call (more than likely from whatever company handles their debiting for them) and everything seemed right, even my response to the question "If I want to back out of the debit, is there a number I can call to do so?" to which the reply was (416) 488-4664 and my special pin # would be 3636. Almost immediately after the number was given to me the call was ended by the caller before any further questions could be asked.
Panic set in......I have NEVER in my life seen a credit service that did not offer a toll free number for its consumers. I immediately called the number to opt out and recieved a message pertaining to "First Capital Consumer Group.....the voice mailbox is full". WIth no way to opt out in my window to do so ( The "company" apparently has made sure of that ) I contacted my bank the next day to check my options.
The route I had to take to ensure that these scammers did not get my money was to close my checking account and start over again. A simple "stop payment" has a coin flip chance of working because there is no check number involved, AND on top of that, this company apparently has several other names attached to it so there was no guarantee that "First Capital Consumers Group" would be affixed to the debit. I sure hope that they are stupid enough to try to get me to pay a $25.00 fee WHICH by the way, they did threaten me with in the original conversation should I have non sufficient funds.
EVERYONE BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY or ANYONE SOLICITING CREDIT OVER THE PHONE WHO WILL NOT RESPOND FAVORABLY TO A REQUEST FOR WRITTEN INFORMATION ON THE CREDIT OFFERED!!!!
That should have been a red light also, but for some strange reason, I guess they caught me at a "weak moment". Best of luck to all regarding these frauds.
