compaq IJ600 / printer problem - two years old and not working

I have a compaq IJ600 printer.It is one year old. Yesterday it started giving trouble. The nature of the problem is as follows:

When I want a document to be printed, the two indicators at the top start flashing randomly and the print window indicates that the printer is not ready and speakers says there is problem communicating with the printer.Please give some suggestion
